'Put-in' Russia's energy resources to regain its lost pride and prestige

IIPM PUBLICATION
Guess, what are the similarities between Russia and China? Well, they both are huge in terms of geographical boundaries and are showcasing potentially strong and growth-oriented economies. Let's now share one more very striking similarity; an aggressively strong approach and appetite for oil.

Russia holds mammoth reserves of oil & natural gas, and is using them to the hilt to regain its lost position in the global politics. Oil, being the major exported commodity in its trade sheet, makes for a major portion of its foreign exchange earnings. And not only that, Russia under Putin is leaving no stone unturned to use oil as a foreign policy tool, both to browbeat the former Soviet-ruled states and also to forge new alliances with countries like China and Japan. And as predicted, America is surely infuriated with this new found confidence in Russia and Putin’s assertiveness. No wonder one oft en finds US complaining about Putin’s high-handedness in dealing with domestic political opponents and also treating neighbours, like Belarus and Georgia, in a derogatory and condescending manner.
